Every Mukhi (face) of Rudraksha governs a different planet, deity, and life area. Wearing the wrong bead is at best ineffective and at worst counter-productive. Here is how to choose the one your chart actually asks for.
Rudraksha beads are sacred. They are also planet-specific. Wearing a bead that does not align with your chart wastes its power. Wearing the right one transforms your daily energy.
What Rudraksha Actually Does
Rudraksha (literally "Rudra-aksha" โ the tear of Shiva) are seeds of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree. Each bead has natural ridges called Mukhis (faces). The number of Mukhis determines which planet and deity the bead is energetically tuned to. When worn on the body (typically over the heart on a thread or silver chain), the bead radiates that planetary frequency.
The Mukhi-to-Planet Map
1 Mukhi: Surya (Sun). The rarest and most powerful. For people in leadership, dasha of weak Sun, low confidence, headaches, heart concerns. Authentic 1-mukhi is half-moon shaped; the round 1-mukhi is mostly counterfeit.
2 Mukhi: Chandra (Moon). For emotional stability, mind fluctuations, partnership harmony. Often given to those starting a new marriage or facing emotional churn.
3 Mukhi: Mangal (Mars). For Manglik / Mangal Dosha, anger management, low confidence, accident-proneness. Reduces Mars's aggressive edge.
4 Mukhi: Budh (Mercury). For students, speakers, writers, those struggling with communication or learning. Sharpens intellect.
5 Mukhi: Guru (Jupiter). The most common and most universally beneficial. Wisdom, peace, dharma, devotion. Safe for everyone. A 108-bead mala is traditionally 5-mukhi.
6 Mukhi: Shukra (Venus). For relationships, luxury, art, music, beauty. For those with afflicted Venus or seeking marital harmony.
7 Mukhi: Shani (Saturn). For Sade Sati, Shani Dasha, financial discipline, career stagnation. Brings patience and steady prosperity.
8 Mukhi: Ganesh + Rahu. For removing obstacles, paralysis of decisions, Rahu Mahadasha challenges, addiction recovery.
9 Mukhi: Durga + Ketu. For mothers, fierce protection, Ketu Mahadasha. Spiritual awakening.
10 Mukhi: Vishnu (all 10 directions). For protection from negative energies, evil eye, black magic. Worn by those in high public exposure.
11 Mukhi: Hanuman. For courage, strength, success in battle (literal or metaphorical), dispelling fear.
12 Mukhi: Surya (12-form). For leadership, government work, executive roles.
13 Mukhi: Indra / Kamadeva. For desires, sales, persuasion, charisma. Use carefully โ amplifies wanting nature.
14 Mukhi: Hanuman + Shiva (Devamani). The Deva Mani. Considered the most spiritually elevated. For sadhakas (advanced seekers).
Special Combinations
Gauri Shankar: Two Rudraksha naturally fused โ represents Shiva and Parvati. For marital harmony and family unity.
Garbh Gauri: A larger bead fused with a smaller one โ represents Parvati and child Ganesh. For couples seeking pregnancy.
Trijuti: Three Rudraksha naturally fused (extremely rare). The most spiritually potent combination.
How to Choose By Your Chart
The most accurate way is to identify which planet in your kundli is weak (debilitated, afflicted by malefics, in a difficult house) and choose the corresponding Mukhi.
Simple rules of thumb:
- Weak Sun โ 1 or 12 Mukhi - Afflicted Moon โ 2 Mukhi - Manglik / strong Mars โ 3 Mukhi - Weak Mercury โ 4 Mukhi - Default / spiritual awakening โ 5 Mukhi - Difficult Venus โ 6 Mukhi - Sade Sati / Saturn issues โ 7 Mukhi - Rahu Mahadasha โ 8 Mukhi - Ketu Mahadasha โ 9 Mukhi - General protection โ 10 Mukhi
The Authenticity Question
Most "Rudraksha" sold online are not authentic. Genuine Rudraksha come from Nepal (the most spiritually potent origin) or Java/Sumatra (commercial-grade). Tests for authenticity:
1. X-ray test: Real Rudraksha has natural internal chambers visible in X-ray. 2. Copper coin test: Genuine Rudraksha rotates between two copper coins (not a foolproof test but a traditional indicator). 3. Boiling water test: Authentic Rudraksha does not change colour in hot water.
At Divya Maarg, every Rudraksha is sourced directly from Nepali harvesters, X-ray verified, temple-energised (Prana Pratishtha) before shipping. We will not recommend a Rudraksha unless your kundli actually asks for it. Selling unnecessary remedies is contrary to dharma.
How to Wear
After receiving the Rudraksha, perform the Prana Pratishtha (energy invocation) ritual. Bathe the bead in milk and Ganga jal. Recite the bija mantra of the corresponding deity 108 times. Wear it on a thread (red, yellow, or natural silk) or silver chain over the heart or around the wrist.
Avoid wearing during sleep (some traditions) and avoid touching it with unwashed hands. Recharge the bead annually by re-soaking in Ganga jal on its planet's day (e.g., 7-mukhi on Saturday).
